The Places We Carry

"Nobody seems to live where they were born anymore. We are a society of nomads, traveling, exploring, and immersing ourselves in each other’s cultures and customs. We are shaped by words, thoughts, inspirations, struggles, and the loving arms around us…somewhere under our worldly veneer, we are still in a relationship with our roots. They remain a quiet comfort in our hearts".

This is what Pamela Philips Oland, an all-time lyricist, shared about the meaning of her latest release, But Home, with music artist AALLAR. Together, they have collaborated to create several songs, including "But Home," "Sweet Child Of My Heart," and "Travel On."

Pamela talks about being English while also being a naturalized American. Despite leaving home, she still feels English. Her customs, etiquette, and love for musical theatre, which came from her English family, are still present, and she carries them wherever she goes. But Home touches on the importance of our roots, showing that no matter how far we travel or how much we change, we will always carry home with us.

AALLAR is a well-known electronic music artist who also dives deeply into the dance sub-genre. His music is unique and often includes elements of house blended with techno. Born in Europe and later establishing his career in America, AALLAR shared this passion with Pamela, as they both connected through a similar experience that inspired the song But Home.

The song Travel On focuses on celebrating the journey of a person’s life on Earth. Pamela and AALLAR dedicated the song to Pamela’s cousin, Steve Somers, who was also a friend of AALLAR and sadly passed away. The song expresses grief in a way only music can. With the lyric, “It was your time to Travel On,” the song becomes both a farewell and a celebration of a life that continues through memory.

In the end, both But Home and Travel On remind us that even as we travel, change, and lose people we love, our roots and memories continue to guide us forward.
