After the 60s, 70s and 80s (well, in opposite order of appearance) I hope it doesn't come as a surprise that 10 Tropical Edits of Epic 90s Classics is next in this series! I am aware of the fact that most of the previous Soundcloud playlists don't consist of 10 tracks anymore, but that just goes to show their overenthusiasm in removing remixes (seriously, Soundcloud, we're not allowed to remix a half a century old song?). Anyway, here it is, 10 songs most of us will be able to sing along, in a new outfit!
We'll start off with the oldest one in the list: before tropical house was even a thing, Viceroy was already putting out remixes that gave off that special California feeling. Tropical, if you will. I actually never heard Mark Morrison's original in the 90s, but the introduction by Viceroy was a good one! And there's more from that side of the US: SNBRN and KLATCH from Los Angeles collaborated for a heavy bassline filled remake of All That She Wants by Ace of Base. Hotel Garuda, half based in LA as well, took on Corona's disco classic Rhythm of the Night together with AOBeats, which was one of their breakthrough tunes over a year ago.
Closer to Europe, but still at the other side of the ocean, we find Adam Foster, who has been on the rise over last six months with an ever improving tropical yet deep remixing style. One of the good editing choices he made was Outkast's Rosa Parks, adding a very well picked sax while keeping the original hip hop sound all over. Moving to Europe, let's start with the Dutchies for a change! I only recently discovered Campsite Dream from the small northern island of Texel, but they are going to make it big. Their production with a cover of Jennifer Paige's Crush (please don't read this but I loved this song back in primary school) has quality written all over it.
From France we've got Kulkid remixing Coolio's Gangsta's Paradise over a year ago. Not exactly tropical, but good. Really good. Too good to leave out of this list. From the same country Mozambo added their guitar and tropical touches to Stardust's Music Sounds Better With You. And what is a 90s playlist without the Backstreet Boys? It's not easy to find remixes of them, let alone good tropical ones, but Clubstone from Hamburg managed to create one. Then there's a Spanish duo, Mike Wit & Garabatto aka Sahe, who created this awesome tropical tune with chillstep influences out of Fools Garden's Lemon Tree. And last but not least, another guy that you will hear a lot more from in the near future: Bergen based Basé with a real future vibe including a very fitting sax hook added to Blackstreet's No Diggity.
